Ergonomic innovations meet elegant design to improve office desks
The popularity of height-adjustable desks for ergonomic working is growing fast. Cable routing inside the desk is essential to avoid cable clutter, snag and tripping hazards. Now igus has the perfect solution – the OfficeChain OCO.32.37.0. Due to the easy handling and simple design, this e-chain blends inconspicuously into any office and at the same time ensures smooth operation of the desk.
Height-adjustable desks are experiencing a real sales boom and have become part of modern offices. More and more people are relying on these desks to work more ergonomically which is reflected in the market: in the last three years, sales of adjustable desks have increased and, according to forecasts, will increase on average 5% every year until 20281.
This rising demand reflects a growing awareness of the benefits of remote working and standing for desk-based work. A flexible workplace that allows you to switch between sitting and standing positions increases productivity and overall well-being. However, these movements are usually bad news for the cables on the computer, monitor or telephone. The cables can get tangled, snag in the adjustable desk’s feet or, in the worst case, they can break. Orderly cable management is therefore essential.
With the new OfficeChain OCO.32.37.0 from igus®, cable organisation is simple. Due to the easy handling and straightforward design, the chain looks good in any office design. When straightened the OfficeChain is closed on one side, which is visually neater. “Its one-piece design with a hidden pin-bore connection also gives a sleek look from the side,” explains Justin Leonard, director of e-chains at igus UK. “Thanks to the easy igus design, the cables can be pushed directly into the chain and hidden from view.”
Office furniture innovations back on track post-Covid
The development of the OfficeChain began in 2019 with talks between igus® and a renowned global office furniture manufacturer that needed a tough and attractive solution for its height-adjustable desks. Initial samples from igus® were convincing and led to further product development. The COVID-19 pandemic slowed down the project due to uncertainty about the future of the office space and the company suspended the development project. However, igus® continued to develop the product and presented a refined concept at the end of 2022 that delighted the office furniture manufacturer.
Over the past two and a half years, several design iterations have been completed to optimise the size, strength and aesthetics of the chain. The latest version of the OfficeChain has brackets at both ends, which are either screwed or attached with special rubber-coated magnets to provide extra grip on the desk. “The OfficeChain OCO.32.37.0 is a real innovation for height-adjustable desks, that are increasingly important. It not only offers a functional solution, but also integrates aesthetically into modern office environments,” says Leonard.
